8-time International and National award winning composer, Roland R. Davis, received a standing ovation
in Carnegie Hall for the world-premiere of his newest work, “The Huangguoshu Parable.” With his string quartet
(classical) composition and his jazz composition winning National awards last year -- and an International win for jazz vocalist
and another National award for blues vocalist this
year -- Roland’s
awards now exceed 30 in classical and jazz. As a Presser Scholar and All-American
scholar, he was valedictorian at the New England Conservatory of Music—where Bob Brookmeyer called Roland, “The
voice of the next generation”— where he eaerned honors in three Master’s degrees. This was after being valedictorian,
with highest honors, in degrees in philosophy and classical composition as an undergrad’. Recent commissions include
works for Lincoln Center’s, Ted Nash; International classical saxophonist legend, Harvey Pittel; Internationally-screened
video artist, Salem Mekuria; and a New York Shakespeare production of Love’s Labour’s Lost. Upcoming commissions
for new music include the Kraków Conservatory (classical), works featuring living-legend Scott Hamilton (jazz), another
commission for the Jacob-Knight Award Winner for Poetry, Lea Deschenes (3rd stream), and his classical
piece, Roland’“When There Were Heroes” was featured at an International conference this fall.
